Installing an APK outside Google Play can be useful, for example for beta builds or region-limited apps, but it carries risk. Here is how to do it safely.
Only use trusted sources
Download APKs only from the developer’s official website or well-known repositories that verify signatures. Avoid files promising paid features for free.
Allow installs per app
Android asks permission for each app that installs APKs. Grant it only to your browser or file manager, and turn it off again afterwards.
Scan and check permissions
Let Google Play Protect scan the file, and review the permissions before installing. A flashlight app has no reason to read your messages.
Our verdict
Treat every APK like an email attachment from a stranger: verify it first, then install.
